Field or Position:  Postdoctoral Researcher (Fixed Term)
        Number of People: 1
Affiliation: Elements Strategy Initiative Center for Magnetic Materials (ESICMM)
Job Summary:  Elucidation of the coercivity mechanism by employing statistical physical approaches. The coercivity mechanism, closely related to the relaxation process from metastable states at finite temperatures, is a very important subject in non-equilibrium science. Theoretical research on permanent magnets has traditionally been developed based on micromagnetics. Recently, however, it is becoming increasingly clear that theoretical approaches on the atomic scale are required for a detailed understanding of coercivity. This subject is one of the main topics of the electronic theory group (Takashi Miyake leader, AIST) in ESICMM (a Mext project).  The successful candidate is expected to study physical properties of permanent magnets by applying and developing computational methods based on statistical physics in collaboration with NIMS Principal Researcher, Masamichi Nishino, and Prof. Emer. Seiji Miyashita in the University of Tokyo. This study will focus in particular on magnetization reversal and propagation, nucleation, response properties, etc.

Qualification: The applicant should hold a PhD degree, or should be expecting to obtain one by arrival. Familiarity with condensed matter physics and/or material science as well as a working knowledge on programming skills for simulations is required.

        Arrival Time: Earlier, 2020
Duration: 1 year (optionally renewable contract, up to march 31, 2022)
        Work Place:  NIMS Sengen site
